Bahnhof’s Prionen Facility
In central Stockholm, Sweden’s largest ISP, Bahnhof, renovated an old World War II nuclear bunker into a 11,950 sq feet data center. This location is called the Pionen facility and started as a rough cut cave with lights and a flat floor. Today this center leverages the military security of being behind 20” thick steel entrance doors and hidden below 100 feet solid bedrock. Some interesting facts:
- 1.5 Megawatts backup power from Maybach MTU diesel engines; diesel engines originally designed for German submarines
- Three way redundant internet fiber and copper backbone pipes
- Sweden also has some of the toughest information protection laws in the world

We have big dreams to change our lives and to make something of ourselves, but we don’t. Maybe because we are too concerned about where we will live or where our next meal will come from. It is that split second of hesitation in which we see all the consequences. Then in our effort to be spontaneous, we fail.
